Racing History
Claire first raced in September 2003 at Brands Hatch in the
BRSCC Road Saloons driving a VW Mark I Golf, the only female
competitor. She continued in this series until the end of
the season getting a 6th at Snetterton.
Claire then took part in the 2003 Winter Saloon
Series, finishing 3rd in class
at Brands Hatch in wet conditions.
For 2004, Claire entered the VW Racing Cup, the
first female to compete in the popular and fast growing championship.
Claire campaigned her MkI GTi with ATMR who also ran a Beetle
and diesel Golf MkIV. Achieving strong performances in some competitively
fought races around the country Claire was awarded the ‘Spirit
of the Year’ award in her rookie year with the championship.
The following 2005 season was contested again with a freshly
painted car and high hopes for more success. With a few gremlins
to contend with and contact from other drivers the season didn’t
run as smooth however Claire, determined as ever, enjoyed some
magnificent race long battles especially with another MkI driven
by Stuart Bliss. During the season Claire went to Silverstone
to train as an ARDS Instructor and once qualified began instructing
at a number of circuits and schools in the UK working in both
front and rear wheel drive cars. Though lacking the financial
support to enter the 2006 season with a more competitive car,
instructing has enabled Claire to keep her finger on the pulse
and has also lead to other exciting career opportunities including
working for a V8 Race Experience company in Australia earlier
this year.
Now busy working on an administration and event management contract
for The Masters Racing Series, Claire is heavily immersed in
the fascinating world of historic motor sport. Looking forward
to the 2008 season the opportunities to dust off the overalls
and get behind the wheel in a Masters or Top Hat race are ever
likely!
