The VW Cup
The Volkswagen Racing Cup was founded in 2000 (as
the VW Cup) and achieved Championship status in 2001. Since then
it has become the fastest growing saloon racing series in the
country attracting a large and varied grid.
The series is open to almost all Volkswagen models. Claire
competes in her Golf MK1, which
sees her line up on a grid alongside a Scirocco, Polos,
Lupos, Beetles,
Ventos and even a Caddy! Close racing is ensured by a strict code of regulations
which match maximum engine power output with minimum weight. This has produced
some of the most exciting racing of the moment on the British scene.
The series is run over
six meetings, each having two races, which produces a 12
round Championship. This gives competitors
and spectators alike a wealth of track
time to enjoy. Further still, the VW Cup from 2004 has been invited to support
British F3 and GT events. These events draw large and knowledgable crowds, giving
the series a wonderful grassroots boost. Also, the Championship receives television
coverage on both terrestrial and satellite channels.
The Championship is run
under the BRSCC and is administered by Volkswagen Racing
UK.
Claire is full of praise
for the friendly series, which she feels is an exciting and
challenging arena for her to hone
her racing skills. "It is a very friendly
race series" Claire says. "Everyone is chilled and helpful though it's
very competitive once you are on the track!"
